Black Marsh development hearing slated

September 15, 1991

The Chesapeake Bay Critical Area Commission will host a public hearing on the proposed North Point State Park, also known as Black Marsh State Park, at 7 p.m. Sept. 25 at Sparrows Point High School, 7400 North Point Road.

The state has proposed developing the coastal property as a waterfront park, including a 700-seat amphitheater, visitors center, beach, picnic area, boat docks and a partial restoration of the old Bay Shore Amusement Park.

The Coalition to Preserve Black Marsh Inc. and other opponents of the plan want the area kept in its natural state as a marsh and a nesting site for bald eagles.
