Schaefer Meets Democratic Club To Discuss Unity

September 11, 1991

Gov. William Donald Schaefer will talk to a newly formed political club here Sunday morning about "unity in the Democratic Party."

Organizers say State Comptroller Louis L. Goldstein and Representative Benjamin L. Cardin, D-3rd, will also be present at the inaugural meeting of the Breakfast Club of Howard County. Council member Paul R. Farragut, D-4th, and state Delegate Virginia Thomas, D-13A, also plan tobe present, organizers said.

County Council member Shane Pendergrass, D-1st, is the club's moderator.

Pendergrass said the club hopes to "reach out into the grass roots" to "get like-minded people together" with their local, state and federal elected officials. "It's a way to help people feel connected," she said.

"Usually, these things cost $50 to $100 a plate," she said. "It is not often you can have breakfast with the governorfor $6."

Actually, the cost is closer to $16. The $6 fee is for club members; non-members pay $8 now and $10 at the door for a buffet breakfast of scrambled eggs, sausage, bacon, sweet rolls and coffee at the Classics Pub on Gateway Drive in Columbia.

Membership in theclub is $10 per year. Today is the deadline for getting Sunday's breakfast at a reduced rate; call Barbara Stuart for reservations at 953-1361.
