CURRENT volunteers' news and needs:
Maryland Public Television Project Reach Out, which aired last Thursday on MPT channels as well as many TV and radio stations requesting volunteer time for education, had an overwhelming response of 896,843 volunteer hours pledged to regional schools, libraries and educational programs for 1991-92 school year. Last year's pledge was 235,000 hours. The project began in 1988.

Fort McHenry National Monument and Historic Shrine is seeking volunteers for a variety of positions which include staffing the information desk, leading activities, helping in the park's library or museum collection and on general maintenance. Ombudsman Program of the Commission on Aging and Retirement Education wants volunteers to help protect the rights of Baltimore City nursing home residents who are too frail and sick to advocate for themselves. Volunteers will be trained to investigate and attempt to resolve complaints. Call 396-3144.
