South Carroll Cavs

1991 Girls Soccer Outlooks

September 08, 1991

Coach: Jim Horn, fifth year

Assistant Coach: Brian Raines

Last year's record: 8-2-2 overall, 3-1-2 in the Central Maryland Conference, 4-1-2 in the county

Top returnees: Seniors, forward Gretchen Fogle, forward Jen Marrisette, fullback Gretchen DeWitt, fullback Julie Laudicina, fullback Lisa Masterson

Top newcomers: Juniors, forward Nicky Robitaille, halfback Julie Manley; sophomore, halfback Jamie Isaacs; freshmen, goalkeeper Kendra Pulis, forward Amber Clutter

Coach's comments: "With our regional alignment, we have as good a shot as anybody. We're not very deep on the bench. We'll play them until they wilt and when they do, hope we have a nice lead."

The Carroll County Sun's outlook: The Cavaliers will start as many as eight lettermen returning from last year's 8-2-2 team. But the starters will have to carry much of the burden as the bench looks thin, particularly at midfield. Fogle and Marrisette key the offensive attack but need to find midfielders to consistently get them the ball. Defense is solid with DeWitt, Laudicina and Masterson returning. Pulis, a freshman goalkeeper highly touted by Horn, may see time. Horn hopes the rigors of heavy minutes won't wear his troops down. The key to the Cavaliers success this season lies on its young midfield. They must get the offense the ball in position to score. Look for the defense tocome up big with a lot of 1-0, 2-1 games, some of those games can goeither way.
