1991 Girls Soccer Outlooks

September 08, 1991

Coach: Dave Price, third year

Last year's record: 9-2-2 overall, 4-0-2 in the Central Maryland Conference, 4-0-2 in the county

Top returnees: Seniors, forward Julie Cox, halfback Darlene Marsiglia, fullback Valerie Swomley, halfback Erin Myers, fullback HeatherDobelstein

Top newcomers: Juniors, forward Amy Wolff, fullback Cindy McCloskey; sophomore, halfback Kym Frey

Coach's comments: "I'mvery comfortable with them. When you go 9-2-2 and return 15 letter-winners, 12 seniors, and of the returnees, eight started last year, you have to feel pretty comfortable about your season coming up, and I do."

The Carroll County Sun's outlook: The Lions are coming off a highly successful year and have 15 lettermen returning -- 12 of them seniors. Simply put, this team is loaded. They are strong almost everywhere, especially at midfield (to get the ball up to the offense, especially Cox), defense and in goal. Marsiglia and Myers key the midfield and distribute the ball effectively. Swomley and Dobelstein return on defense and will make things tough for opposing forwards. Cox isthe team's leading scorer returning and should score even more having played another year with Marsiglia and Myers. The additions of Wolfat forward, McCloskey at full and Frey at halfback will give Price all the depth he needs. This team should have their way in the county as well as the CMC. And, with the drop to Class 2A, you have to wonder if this is the year the Lions could take it all.
