Western Md. Terrors

1991 Boys Soccer Outlooks

September 08, 1991

Coach: Matt Robinson, third year

Assistant coaches: Carlton Cayward

Last year's record: 9-8-1 overall, 1-3-1 and fifth in the Middle Atlantic Conference -- Southwest Division

Top returnees: Seniors, goalkeeper Nick Vasil, goalkeeper Jim Francisco; juniors, forward Brian Redding, halfback Eric Resh, halfback Ron Chesney, forward Jim Frisone; sophomore, fullback Scott Schoberg

Top newcomers: Junior, fullback Dave Story; freshmen, halfback/forward Matt Massey, halfback John Nichols, goalkeeper Matt St. Jean

Coach's comments: "We have aveteran team with eight key players back. I'm looking for a very productive year with another year's experience under our belt. The Carroll County kids have given us a nice nucleus to build upon."

The Carroll County Sun's outlook: The Green Terrors continue to improve under third-year coach Robinson. After a 4-9-3 mark his first season, Robinson's team improved to 9-8-1 last year. He believes the Green Terrors will continue to rise. Western Maryland has a solid nucleus returning -- starting with the luxury of having two quality senior goalkeepers. Robinson also is excited about his Carroll County connection --Redding, Resh, Chesney and Schoberg -- all of whom played high school ball in the county. Robinson is looking for a big year from Redding, who is coming off an injury-plagued season. Resh plays a pivotal role in the middle. In order to continue to improve, the Green Terrors must improve within their section.
