1991 Boys Soccer Outlooks

September 08, 1991

Coach: Charles Fazenbaker, second year

Assistant coaches: Bob Ridgely, Gary Baylog

Last year's record: 6-4-2 overall, 2-4 and fifth in the Central Maryland Conference, 2-3-1 tied for second in the county

Top returnees: Seniors, forward Tim Jenkins, halfback Eric Peterson, fullback Mike Seigel, halfback Andy Thompson, goalkeeper Curtis Peltier

Top newcomers: Senior, forward Mads Phaysen; juniors, fullback Eddie Dirostek, fullback Donnie Pyles, halfback Adam Hendrickson

Coach's comments: "Competition is a big part right now. We're trying some new things and we haven't reached what we want to do just yet. They are learning and learning and the progress has been good. I'm optimistic."

The Carroll County Sun's outlook: Fazenbaker returns for his secondyear as head coach with 11 seniors only he has coached during their high school career (he was the junior varsity coach prior to taking the varsity job). One of those seniors is county scoring leader of a year ago Jenkins (six goals and two assists) -- who should do much thesame this year. Fazenbaker also is looking for scoring at the midfield positions where he has four or five guys capable of starting. He continues to incorporate his own system and how well they pick it up will tell a lot. So far so good, says Fazenbaker. South Carroll has the depth and experience to make a legitimate run at the Central Maryland Conference title as well as the county title. If the other county teams don't watch out, South Carroll could be the surprise of the county.
