Westminster Owls

1991 Field Hockey Outlooks

September 08, 1991

Co-coaches: Brenda Baker, ninth year and Sue Hooper, 21st year

Last year's record: 13-1-1 overall, Class 4A Region I champion, state Class 4A runner-up, 5-0 and first in the county, 6-0 and first in the Central Maryland Conference

Top returnees: Seniors, link Judie Marcus, halfbacks Staci Schmidt, Meredith Fisher, goalie Cindy Dieterly

Top newcomers: Juniors, link Tinah Houck, defender Denise Bollinger

Coaches' comments: "Our lack of experience will be evident in the first few games. As we continue to work together, I think it will get better and we'll be competitive in every game."

The Carroll County Sun's outlook: The teammay have a shaky start, but will get better with time. The key to their season will be how quickly the eight new starters progress. If winning really breeds success, however, look out. The Owls junior varsity was 8-1-3, so the varsity team should be competitive this year. But the Owls may not be able to handle the experience of Liberty in thecounty title fight. Westminster is a dark horse contender for countyand CMC honors.
