Liberty Lions

1991 Cross Country Outlooks

September 08, 1991

Coach: Brad Hill, 10th year

Last years records: BOYS -- Incomplete team in the county meet, seventh in the Central Maryland Conference. GIRLS -- Second in the county, third in the Central Maryland Conference, second in the state Class 3A meet

Top returnees: BOYS -- Seniors, Tim Ahern, Matt Alexander, Mike Innskeep, Neal Swearer, Matt Zeigler; juniors, Paul Sunell, Ian Beam. GIRLS -- Seniors, Rachael Adams, Curry Snelson; junior, Tamara Mitchell; sophomores, Jen Myers, Debbie Ward

Top newcomers: BOYS -- Junior, Aaron Sweemer; freshmen, Joe Ledda, Justin Combs, Aric Detrich, Justin Stewart. GIRLS -- Junior, Katie Hill; sophomores, Karie Lew, Katie Sweemer, Gina Runk; freshmen, Katie Mangle, Carrie Beam

Coach's comments: BOYS -- "We can't afford any injuries. We have two freshmen who are pushing the upperclassmen, and that's good. If you don't have those fresh kids coming in every year, those other kids get complacent." GIRLS -- "I'm not sure where we are going to fall. I would tend to think that we're No. 3 as far as the CMC is concerned."

The Carroll County Sun's outlook: BOYS -- This is Liberty's best boys team in several years, and they could finish as high as middle of the pack in the county. Both Ian Beam and Tim Ahern have added muscle to their lanky frame. GIRLS -- After several years as one of the better teams around, the Lions could have a tough road to travel this year. Two of last year's top runners are unexpectedly gone this year, so quality experience is at a premium.
