Baseball Atlanta Braves -- Called up SS Rico Rossy (former Baltimore Orioles farmhand) from Class AAA Richmond to replace Jeff Blauser, who has a broken big toe on his left foot.

Cincinnati Reds -- Called up P Jack Armstrong, P Steve Foster and IF Freddie Benavides from Class AAA Nashville.

Detroit Tigers -- Called up P David Haas, C Rich Rowland, 2B Johnny Paredes and OF Shawn Hare from Class AAA Toledo.

Los Angeles Dodgers -- Purchased the contract of P Mike Christopher from Class AAA Albuquerque.

Toronto Blue Jays -- Sent P Steve Wapnick to the White Sox to complete the trade for Cory Snyder.

Basketball

Charlotte Hornets -- Signed G Rex Chapman (15.7 ppg) to a multi-year contract extension. The Charlotte (N.C.) Observer reported that the deal would run for 4 or 5 years and would put Chapman on par with teammate Kendall Gill's $1.8 million per year contract.

Washington Bullets -- Traded G Darrell Walker (7.8 ppg, 6.5 apg, 7.0 rpg) to the Detroit Pistons for two second-round draft picks.

Albany Patroons (CBA) -- Traded F Albert King (Maryland) to the La Crosse Catbirds for G Dwayne McClain.

College

Georgia Southern -- Announced that QB Joe Dupree, a starter for Georgia at the end of last season who had been redshirted for 1991, will attend this fall and be eligible next season.

Marist -- Announced it will join the Liberty Football Conference in 1992.

Stony Brook -- Named Sam Kornhauser men's AD.

Towson State -- Declared junior lacrosse G Rich Betcher (218 saves on 539 shots) academically ineligible for the 1992 season.

Virginia -- Announced that lacrosse players MF David Jones (St. Mary's), MF Mike McQuaid (Mount Hebron), MF Tony Nugent (Calvert Hall), MF Michael Vaughan (Loyola) and D Joe Wilson (Howard) have signed letters of intent.
