The Jewish Community Center is sponsoring a playwrighting contest for students in grades five through 12 in conjunction with the upcoming Jewish Book Fair to be held Nov. 10-21.
Entries will be submitted to one of three categories: plays of 15 minutes for students in grades five and six; plays of 20 minutes for students in grades seven through nine; plays of 25 minutes for students in grades 10 through 12.
Plays must be the original work of the submitting student. The scripts must be typed or written clearly in ink. No collaborations or team efforts will be accepted. The theme of the plays must have something to do with Judaism.
Entries may be funny or serious and may involve mystery or fantasy. No musicals will be accepted.
All works will be judged on creativity, form and Judaic content by members of the Jewish Book Fair Committee and the JCC Jewish Repertory Theater Committee. The three winning plays will be produced and staged under the direction of the JCC's theater coordinator.
The deadline for entries is Oct. 18. Plays should be mailed to: The Jewish Community Center, 5700 Park Heights Ave., Baltimore, Md. 21215. Attention: Sheila Steelman.
Entries must include the name of the play and the student's name, address, phone number, age and school. Scripts submitted will not be returned.
