Keeping a promise to appoint a maritime veteran as his right-hand man, Maryland Port Administration Director Adrian G. Teel has named Michael P. Angelos deputy executive director. Teel, a former Anne Arundel County administrator with no previous port experience, said Angelos will continue as president of Maryland International Terminals, a subsidiary of the MPA.
In an unrelated announcement yesterday, Gov. William Donald Schaefer has appointed former Secretary of Transportation William K. Hellman to serve on the Maryland Port Commission, which oversees the Port of Baltimore.
Hellman, a partner in the consultant engineering firm Rummel Klepper & Kahl, replaces Jerome Geckle, who retired.
Angelos, 39, joined the port in the spring of 1990 as the head of port facilities operations. He oversaw the opening of the Seagirt Marine terminal and helped negotiate a four-year contract with longshoremen.
