* Buddy Edmond, Patterson, 6-2, 200, Jr., QB -- He completed 95 of 185 passes for 1,801 yards and 22 TDs last season and is also a solid kicker. Last year, he made 33 of 35 PATs and punted for an average of 33.5 yards.

* Chris Gill, C. Milton Wright, 6-0, 186, Sr., RB -- Gill gained 653 yards and scored 5 TDs running behind Kenny Batten (19 TDs, more than 1,300 yards) last season. Now that Batten is gone, Gill is the heir to a strong Mustangs running game.

* Jay Glickson, Pikesville, 5-10, 190, Sr., QB -- Glickson threw for more than 3,000 yards in his first 2 years as a starter. He can throw from the pocket or on the run.

* Joe Goodwin, South Carroll, 5-10, 167, Sr., QB -- Was 106-for-200, with 1,357 yards, 15 TDs and 4 interceptions last season. "He's got an excellent arm," says South Carroll coach Ken Parker. "He's a team leader. He's one of the best leaders I've ever had at South Carroll."

* Brent Guyton, Wilde Lake, 6-2, 210, Sr., LB -- The best defensive player in the Howard County, Guyton was a key on a Wilde Lake team that had 6 shutouts. He had 50 solo tackles, 51 assists, 3 interceptions, 7 sacks and a fumble recovery last year.

* Brad Hoag, Loyola, 5-10, 175, Sr., RB -- He gained 892 yards and 9 TDs as a junior. He uses his speed to run inside or outside with equal effectiveness.

* John Jennings, Severna Park, 5-7, 225, Sr., RB -- Jennings ran for 1,264 yards (5.8 avg.) and 13 TDs last year. With 4.6 speed in the 40, great power and a low center of gravity, he threatens the 1964 Anne Arundel County record of 1,835 yards by Severna Park's Gary Thall.

* Eugene Marshall, Cardinal Gibbons, 6-1, 185, Sr., RB -- The key to the Crusaders' offense. He used his 4.4 speed in the 40 to gain 1,122 yards last year. Marshall also starts for the Crusaders' basketball team, which ranks among the area's best.

* Marlin Matthews, Owings Mills, 5-10, 180, Sr., RB -- Matthews may be Baltimore County's top back. Last year he ran for more than 1,238 yards and scored 17 TDs during the regular season.

* Daryl Ray, Eastern Vo-Tech, 6-1, 180, Sr., RB -- Ray has good speed, but it's his powerful legs (he squats more than 400 pounds) that make him so dangerous. He ran for 871 yards and 5 TDs last season.

* Billy Reese, Old Mill, 5-8, 255, Sr., NT -- He leads a group of veteran players. Last season, he ranked third on the team in tackles (62) and recorded 5 sacks, recovered 3 fumbles and blocked 2 passes.

* Monte Spencer, Oakland Mills, 6-0, 225, Sr., G/LB -- Spencer was an All-Howard County defensive lineman last year (38 solo tackles, 36 assists, 4 sacks, 1 fumble recovery). This year, he'll move to inside linebacker, where he should rank among the league leaders in tackles.

* Gregg Washington, Oakland Mills, 6-4, 195, Sr., SE/S -- Washington caught 24 passes for 469 yards and 5 TDs in a run-oriented offense last season. An All-Howard County selection at free safety last year, he had 6 interceptions.

* Phil White, Wilde Lake, 6-2, 200, Sr., QB -- White completed 25 of 43 passes for 707 yards (28-yard average) and 9 touchdowns with 1 interception last year. In coach Doug DuVall's new run-and-shoot offense, White could complete 25 passes per game.

* Wade Zufall, North Carroll, 5-10, 150, Sr., SE/P -- Zufall was the leading receiver in Carroll County (39 receptions for 746 yards) and punter (36.7 average) last year and was the No. 2 scorer with 44 points.
