A 16-year-old was killed shortly before 4 p.m. yesterday when a 1980 Pontiac he was driving north on Md. 331 near Easton in Talbot County crossed the center line and crashed head-on into a southbound Mack truck.

Police said the victim, Baron Nichols of Preston, was pronounced dead at the scene from massive head and chest injuries.

The driver of the truck, Phillip Henes, 52, of Easton, was taken by ambulance to Memorial Hospital in Easton, where he was treated for minor injuries and released.

Police said driver error on the part of Nichols contributed to the crash.
