Howard Lions

Football 1991/going For The Goals

September 01, 1991

Coach: John Quinn, sixth year

1990 record: 3-7

Returnees: Seniors Dave Jones (LB/RB), Adam Eldridge (LB/G), BillTerry (TE/DE), Mark McFadden (G/DT), Dominuque Pierre-Toussaint (NG), Brandon Davis (C/DT).

Newcomers to watch: Seniors Donnie Eaton (LB), Bobby Smith (T/DT); juniors Kirk Wise (DB/RB), Dale German (T/DT), Steve Markley (T/DT), David King (WR/DB), Brian Stubbs (QB/LB), Robert Platter (TE/DE); sophomores Carlton Fox (WR/DB/QB), Kevin Corwin(G/LB).

Coach's outlook: "We average about 180 pounds a man. We're very quick. We're certainly not a veteran team, but we've got a lotof kids coming up from a good junior varsity who are used to winning. They're very businesslike and show a lot of pride in what they do. We hope that carries over into the season."

Howard County Sun outlook: The Lions will need immediate impact from promising newcomers like Smith, Wise, Fox and Stubbs, because Howard returns just four starters. Defensively, Howard looks strongest at linebacker, and if linemen like Pierre-Toussaint and Davis hold the blockers at bay, the Lions should be decent against the run. Inexperience on offense will hurt, especially in the early weeks.
