Brunswick Railroaders

Monocacy Valley Athletic League Outlooks

September 01, 1991

Coach: Mark Mitchell, second year

Assistant coaches: Jon Marshall, Art Carpenter, Neil Porter, Ray Aubel, Todd Mumpower

Last year's record: 3-7 overall, 2-7 in the Monocacy Valley Athletic League

Top returnees: Seniors, running back Scott Frye; juniors, quarterback Sean Haga, running back Randy Franklin, offensive center/linebacker John Mongold

Top newcomers: Juniors, fullback Ryan Reynolds, running back Jeff Oden

Coach's comments: "We have experience coming back but they are still young (only six seniors on the varsity squad). We're doing more things this year at this time than we did last year. As long as we keep learning as the season progresses, we should getbetter. I would like to be around .500 this year."

The Carroll County Sun's outlook: The Railroaders are striving to reach the .500 mark in Mitchell's second season at the helm. They have a young nucleusof talent centered around the offensive backfield of Haga at quarterback and running backs Frye and Franklin. They finished strong last year, winning two of their last three games. Look for Brunswick to continue to improve as the players get more comfortable with Mitchell's system. The Railroaders are not yet ready to contend for any MVAL titles, but this team should come close to reaching the .500 mark and could surprise some of the stronger teams in the league. A young team that is learning on the field, this team could be a league powerhouse in the years to come.
