Monocacy Valley Athletic League Outlooks

September 01, 1991

Coach: Tim Ambrose, 19th year

Assistant coaches: Dave Grove, Jim McNitt, Greg Salley, Steve Nibbs, Greg Clark, Ralph Santaliz, Bob White, Kirk Kraeuter

Last year's record: 8-2, second in the Monocacy Valley Athletic League

Top returnees: Seniors, defensive end Mike Pilch, defensive tackle Josh Anderson, linebacker Richard Queen, defensive back Jason Delauter, defensive back Donald Lowe, center Rob Buchanan, tight end Joe Kefauver, defensive tackle Nick Chrumbris

Top newcomers: Senior, offensive guard Rory Payne; juniors, running back Mike Johnson, running back Jeff Moore, quarterback Sean Ganley, offensive guard/nose guard David Potter

Coach's comments: "We should be very competitive. We have good depth with above-average team speed. Everybody has worked very hard in practice and we have a good attitude coming into the season."

The Carroll County Sun's outlook: Middletown should be in the hunt for the MVAL title with a nice mix ofexperienced players and promising newcomers. Ambrose is pleased withhis team's depth and will particularly rely on a solid running game led by newcomers Johnson and Moore. They will run behind an experienced offensive line led by the senior center Buchanan. The Knights should be strong defensively with six returning starters -- all seniors. Look for the Knights to battle all season long with Walkersville and North Hagerstown for the top spot in the MVAL. The Knights varsity experience could put them over the top in the league.
