F. Scott Key

Eagles

Coach: Mike Coons, third year

Assistant coaches: Bill Hyson, Ed Williard, Jeff Yingling, Brent Blythe, David Wheeler, Brian Hollingsworth, David Dodson, Tim Harrison

Last year's record: 0-10, 0-9 in the Monocacy Valley Athletic League

Top returnees: Seniors, center/defensive tackle Clint Cromwell, linebacker/running back Norman Jones, wide receiver Scott Everly, tight end/defensive back Pat Bosley, linebacker Brandon Brilhart; juniors, offensive guard Brandon Hurst, offensive tackle Chris Taylor, guard Dale Bloom, wide receiver/cornerback Doug Murph

Top newcomers: Sophomores, quarterback Matt Haines, running back Josh Crone, running back/defensive tackle Jason McCarley, running back Mario Lagunas

Coach's comments: "This is a crucial year for us -- not necessarily on the field. We would like to get kids involved in the program for four years. We want to get to the point where we have 20 seniors and 20 juniors behind them. Practice is going real well; the kids have picked up things real well mentally."

The Carroll County Sun's outlook: Coons says he is building -- notrebuilding -- trying to build a foundation for the future. The Eagles have a good number of juniors and seniors returning with varsity experience but will probably have to rely on inexperienced sophomore Matt Haines at quarterback. Coons is pleased with his first defensive group but is concerned about a lack of depth at some areas. Offensively, the Eagles will run straight at teams and also pass the ball occasionally.
