Monocacy Valley Athletic League Outlooks

S. Hagerstown

Coach: Greg Kellick, fourth year

Assistant coaches: Ralph Stottlemyer, Rick Love

Last year's record: 7-3, 6-3 in the Monocacy Valley Athletic League

Top returnees: Seniors, nose guard Matt McCauley, defensive back Brent Raley, running back/linebacker David Lawrence, offensive tackle Dave Hull, offensive guard Dustin Higgins, running back/defensive back Jay Subetto

Top newcomers: Juniors, quarterback Tyson Hinckle, center Larry Moore, split end Mike Ferdinand

Coach's comments: "We have a young team that will improve each week. Right now I'm cautiously optimistic but I think the kids will be fine once they get some varsity experience. We need to stay away from injuries because we do not have the same luxury of depth we had a year ago."

The Carroll County Sun's outlook: Coming off a solid 7-3 season a year ago, Kellick and his Rebels are regrouping a bit with some junior varsity players. The early portion of the season will tell a lot with such a young group. A few wins under their belt early would dothem wonders confidence-wise. Newcomer junior quarterback Hinckle will join veteran running backs Lawrence and Subetto in the offensive backfield. Senior McCauley will play a major role up front defensively. A big key will be how healthy they can stay throughout the season. Look for the Rebels to be in the top portion of the middle of the pack in the MVAL. Keep an eye on this team next year.
