Richard H. Gaffney City surveyor

Services for Richard H. Gaffney, a former city surveyor, will be held at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at the Barranco Funeral Home in Severna Park.

Mr. Gaffney, who was 71, died of cancer Thursday at his home on Rio Lane in Severna Park. He had lived there three years.

For 35 years before moving to Severna Park, Mr. Gaffney spent summers there while living in Baltimore.

He was a surveyor for Baltimore for more than 50 years and was honored by the city with an award for outstanding service.

The Baltimore native graduated from Baltimore Polytechnic Institute in 1938.

He served in the Army during World War II.

He enjoyed target shooting, fishing and crabbing.

Mr. Gaffney is survived by a brother, Robert D. Gaffney of Severna Park, a niece and two nephews.

The family suggested contributions in Mr. Gaffney's name be made to the American Cancer Society, P.O. Box 493, Severna Park, Md. 21146, or to the Arundel Hospice, 403 Headquarters Drive, Suite 1, Millersville, Md. 21108.
