Bays' Harbor invited to Blast camp again

August 30, 1991|By Bill Free

Maryland Bays forward Jean Harbor, a strong candidate for the U.S. national soccer team, has been invited for the second straight season to the Baltimore Blast training camp but most likely will pass up the invitation again.

"I need a contract before I go to Blast camp," said Harbor, who received a written invitation. "I have a job in Gaithersburg, and I can't afford to give up that job unless I have a contract."

Blast coach Kenny Cooper said in response to Harbor's demand for a contract: "What has he done to deserve it? He's a great outdoor player and I hope he plays in the World Cup, but he's unproven as an indoors player."

Last season, Harbor said he was invited to Blast training camp by Bays teammate Phillip Gyau instead of a direct invitation from Cooper.
