Summer finale is up in the air

August 30, 1991

If you're heading to the beach for a final fling this weekend, you'll find Ocean City is ending the summer holidays on a high note. Stunt planes and parachutists will take to the air as sunbathers soak up those last golden rays, and laser light shows will brighten the nighttime sky.

So keep your Oakleys aimed at the sky and here's what you'll see:

* The U.S. Army Golden Knights Parachute Team will perform their flights of fancy over the ocean at 10 a.m. and 5 p.m. tomorrow and Sunday near Caroline Street. The 15 parachutists will perform their choreographed formations as they, gulp, aim to land on a tiny clearing on the beach.

* An aerobatic stunt show will follow the parachutists with a collection of stunt planes barrel-rolling and looping through the air. The Six of Diamond Flight Team, with its flamboyantly colored restored planes, will perform the finale.

jTC * Nighttime brings another kind of air show tomorrow and Sunday. The laser light show, beginning at 9 p.m. on the beach near Caroline Street, will be synchronized to music as colorful, dancing images reflect off a multitude of mirrors.

* Back to earth, the U.S. Navy Band's chorus, the Sea Chanters, will harmonize at a free concert at 5:45 p.m. Sunday on the beach between Caroline and North Division streets.

* Beyond the beach, a flea market full of goodies will run throughout the three-day weekend at the Convention Center.
