The Arundel Olympic Swim Center on Riva Road is amid its annual 10-day cleaning program.
The facility is closed to the public until Saturday, Aug. 31, in time for Labor Day.
The staff of five full-time employees are working with outside assistance to ensure that the 40-meter, 630,000-gallon pool is operational all year. The largest part of
the job is draining and filling the pool.
When empty, the pool is cleaned, inspected and any needed repairs are made. Once filled (a 16 to 18 hour task) the pool is brought to a comfortable swimming temperature. Other maintenance tasks, such as cleaning windows, changing light bulbs, and cleaning carpetsare also taken care of at this time.
