Man slain by robber outside restaurant

August 29, 1991

City police are investigating the death of an unidentified man who was gunned down last night outside a downtown eatery.

The shooting occurred last night about 10:25 outside the Buttery, a diner-style restaurant at the corner of Charles and Centre streets, police said.

Bystanders said an unidentified assailant was trying to rob the victim and shot him three or four times when the man apparently resisted, according to police.

Homicide detectives, who had no suspects in custody last night, would release no additional information pending further interviews with witnesses.
