Car strikes and kills 11-year-old bicyclist

August 29, 1991

An 11-year-old Frederick boy riding a bike in his neighborhood was struck and killed by a car.

Ira Gray and a friend were racing on their bicycles in an alley between two streets when the accident occurred, police said. Ira was pronounced dead at the scene Tuesday by the Frederick County medical examiner.

Brian Ferree, 18, of Frederick was coming off one of the streets when he saw the other boy riding in the opposite lane.

He was concentrating on the other boy when his car hit Ira Gray, according to a police report.

No charges will be filed against Mr. Ferree, police said.
