August 29, 1991

A 14-year-old resident at the Charles H. Hickey Jr. School in Baltimore County will be charged with setting a fire Tuesday night at the institution, the state fire marshal's office said yesterday.

A bed in a dormitory housing 25 youths was set afire just after 9 p.m., Deputy Chief Fire Marshal Bob Thomas said. Hickey staff members contained the fire with extinguishers until the arrival of Baltimore County firefighters. Residents were moved to another dormitory after the fire, which caused an estimated $5,000 in damage, officials said. There were no injuries.

Fire officials said the youth set the fire after getting into a dispute with the other residents after he was transferred there Tuesday.

Mr. Thomas said the youth will be charged as a juvenile with arson of a dwelling and being a delinquent.
