Fourteen Receive Wmc Scholar Grants

WESMINSTER — WESTMINSTER -- Fourteen high school graduates from the county have received Western Maryland College Scholar Grants during the first of three Guidance Days June 28.

Renewable scholar grants, ranging fromfull tuition to awards of $2,000 and $3,000, are awarded to studentsof outstanding academic ability or exceptional talent in music, art,drama, writing, leadership and community service.

The award categories are Trustee, full tuition valued at $12,505 for 1991-1992; Alumni, two-thirds of tuition; Presidential, one-half tuition; Dean's, one-third tuition; and Faculty, $2,000 to $3,000.

The recipients will attend WMC in the fall of 1991: * Robert Brown, son of Mr. and Mrs. Raymond Brown Jr. of Westminster; Trustee grant. He was a National Honor Society vice president at Westminster High and a semifinalist in the Maryland Distinguished Scholar competition.

* Justin Deibel, son of Barbara S. Deibel of Hampstead; Faculty grant. He was on the soccer, lacrosse and wrestling teams at North Carroll High.

* Matthew Fuhrman, son of Mr. and Mrs. Gary R. Fuhrman ofWestminster; Dean's grant. He was president and treasurer of the Drama Club at Francis Scott Key High, and class government executive board treasurer.

* Angela Graybill, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Allen Graybill Sr. of Taneytown; Trustee grant. She was student government class vice president and NHS president at FSK.

* Karen Jenne, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Arthur K. Jenne of Westminster; Faculty grant. Shewas varsity volleyball captain at WHS.

* Jennifer Keilholtz, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Richard Keilholtz of Taneytown; Alumni grant. She was NHS vice president, volleyball captain and SADD secretary at FSK.

* Michelle Koons, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Michael W. Koons of Taneytown; Trustee grant. A graduate of FSK, she was a semifinalist in the Maryland Distinguished Scholar competition.

* Alison Lowe, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Donald Lowe of Westminster; Presidential grant. She was Sign Language Club president at WHS.

* Kelly Maher, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Francis R. Maher of Sykesville; Trustee grant. She was a semifinalist in the MDS competition, is listed in "Who's Who in American High Schools," and NHS member at South Carroll High.

* Paula Moyer, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Leon P. Moyer of Sykesville;Alumni grant. She was a member of the Carroll County All-High SchoolBand and Orchestra and a semifinalist in the MDS competition from South Carroll High School.

* Wendy Pahl, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Wesley S. Pahl of Sykesville; Trustee grant. She was Varsity Club president, National Honor Society secretary and freshman class president at Liberty High.

* Michelle Sabourin, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Pierre Sabourin of Mount Airy; Trustee grant. She was Band Front captain,Environmental Club leader and NHS member at SCHS.

* Chris Schnell, son of Mr. and Mrs. Richard Schnell of Mount Airy; Alumni grant. Hewas varsity soccer captain, student government vice president and NHS member at SCHS.

* Erich Wagner, son of Mr. and Mrs. Frederick Wagner of Westminster; Dean's grant. He was literary magazine editor and NHS member at Mount St. Joseph High and received an honorable mention in the Maryland Distinguished Scholar competition.
