"The match made in heaven" may have been hell for United Cable subscribers in Baltimore City, but the rest of the World Wrestling Federation's Summer Slam pay-per-view show from Madison Square Garden last night was a winner for the good guys.
Hulk Hogan and Ultimate Warrior beat back the challenge of Sgt. Slaughter, Col. Mustafa and Gen. Adnan (with Hulk bringing back guest referee Sid Justice for an ovation).
Legion of Doom took the tag team belt away from the Nasty Boys. Big Boss Man sent The Mountie to jail for the night in their law-and-order match. Virgil took the million-dollar belt from former boss Ted DiBiase and Bret "The Hit Man" Hart took away Mr. Perfect's Intercontinental belt.
In fact, the only "bad" guys to win were the Natural Disasters, who were too big for the Bushwhackers.
The long-awaited marriage of Randy "Macho Man" Savage and the lovely Miss Elizabeth was to have topped off the evening, but United Cable subscribers were left at the altar, as the broadcast cut off before the bride came up the aisle.
Comcast in Baltimore County apparently had no such problem with its 3,000 Summer Slam subscribers as a "Mr. Robinson" and, two hours later, "Danice" from its staff reported no problems.
Today, a United Cable employee only identified as "Tyrease," confirmed the broadcast went off 15 minutes early but offered no further comment.
