SAT scores

It's your call

August 27, 1991

Scholastic Aptitude Test scores of high school seniors fell to a record low this year in the verbal section. The scores for the mathematics section also slipped. Maryland students' average scores slipped as well.

Do you think that the SAT is a fair measure of a student's likely performance in college, or not? Do you think the declining scores reflect on the quality of schooling, or not?

We'd like you to share your opinion by calling SUNDIAL.

The call is free and must be made from a tone phone. The SUNDIAL number is 783-1800 or, in Anne Arundel County, 268-7736. When you reach SUNDIAL enter category 4600 and wait for instructions from the announcer. Call with your opinion between 10 a.m. and midnight. The results will be published in this section tomorrow.

"It's Your Call" represents a sampling of opinions from certain segments of the community, but it is not balanced demographically, as a scientific public opinion poll would be.
