The Blast has re-signed Mark Mettrick to a one-year contract.

Mettrick will be entering his fourth season here and is coming off his most productive season.

L A year ago, he produced 19 goals and 17 assists in 45 games.

"I'm glad everything has worked out," Mettrick said. "I know for me, personally, this will be an important season because we need to get back in the playoffs and fight for the league championship like we did in my first two seasons. Like everyone else, I'm looking forward to getting started."

Despite the fact Blast coach Kenny Cooper needs to strengthen his defense, he said yesterday Mettrick will play midfield this season.

"It was his position in college and we moved him to defender when he came here," Cooper said. "He wants to play midfield and as we restructure our formations a little bit, we think Mark can help us there."
