A total of 142 horses have been pre-entered for the 11 Maryland Million races, set to be run at Pimlico on Sunday, Sept. 8, according to officials connected with the program.

The featured $200,000 Budweiser Maryland Classic drew seven horses, pitting last year's winner, Timely Warning, against Baron De Vaux, Midas, Cefis, Frugal Doc and a Canadian entry of Most Valiant and Wave Wise.

Safely Kept, the only Maryland-bred ever to win a Breeders' Cup race, will try for a third win in the State of Maryland Distaff Handicap.

Countus In also tries for a third Maryland Million victory in the First National Bank of Maryland Ladies Stakes.

Eleven horses were entered in the inaugural running of a Maryland Million steeplechase, sponsored by Ryland Homes. Double stakes winner Pacific Spy heads the lineup.
