Memento-hunter gets early start on stadium

August 23, 1991

TC Twenty-two baseball games remain to be played at Memorial Stadium in this so-called "season to remember," but at least one souvenir hunter has already begun demolition of the old ball yard -- swiping a piece of the center field fence as an apparent keepsake.

Although the stadium is guarded by Baltimore police officers around the clock, they said someone managed to climb the chain-link fence on the north side and cut out a piece of the vinyl-covered rubber padding on the center field barrier -- probably between Tuesday night and Wednesday morning. The Orioles were in Texas at the time.
