WILLIAMSBURG, VA. — Lehnhard wins Ping/MAPGA section

WILLIAMSBURG, Va. -- Bruce Lehnhard of Lake of the Woods Golf Club in Locust Grove, Va., bogeyed two of the last three holes for par-72, but it was enough to hold off Bob Boyd of Rockville and win his first Ping/MAPGA Section championship at the CC of Ford's Colony yesterday.

Lehnhard finished 71-70-72-213, 1-under par for successive trips over Kingsmill, Golden Horseshoe, and Ford's Colony, followed by Boyd, 72-70-72-214. The triumph was worth $3,525, while Boyd, head pro at Woodmont CC, collected $2,375.

Entering the final round, Lehnhard, last year's MAPGA player of the year and a playoff winner over Boyd in the section's head pro championship earlier this season, trailed Jim Muething by a stroke. After 45 holes, however, it was Lehnhard by two over Boyd. A two-stroke swing at the 15th hole (birdie vs. bogey) provided the leader with a three-stroke cushion.

David Jimenez of Wintergreen had 75-70-72-217, for third overall and low Senior.
