Hillory Dean's vacation from coaching didn't last long.

In what was almost a trade between Anne Arundel Community College and South River High, Dean has been named girls soccer coach at the Edgewater school. Dean's job at Anne Arundel was taken by Jim Shuck, who was the South River coach.

Dean was named three months ago to succeed Mike Miles, who had resigned, as Anne Arundel's womens' coach, but just a couple weeks ago surprised everyone by resigning.

"We had to fill the position fast," said South River athletic director Jim Haluck yesterday. "When Shuck resigned on Monday (Aug. 5), we had to hire someone, with practicebeginning on Aug. 15.

"Since Hillory had applied for the job herebefore, we knew him and hired him. We knew Jim (Shuck) wanted to land a college position, so maybe this will work out well for everyone."

Dean refused to comment.
