An Eastern Shore man was killed when his truck ran into a tree shortly after he shot and wounded his wife during an argument at their Federalsburg home, police said.

Christopher Lee Fluharty, 23, was killed shortly after 9:30 p.m. yesterday when he lost control of his speeding GMC pickup truck and struck a tree on Houston Branch Road near Turner Road, about six miles outside of Federalsburg. Fluharty was declared dead at the scene.

Detective Howard Adams of the Federalsburg police said that shortly before the accident Fluharty argued about money with his wife, Tammi Deeann Fluharty, 22.

Fluharty shot his wife twice with a .32-caliber handgun, police said. She was hit in the left hand and in the left shoulder. He then fled the house in the pickup truck, Adams said.

Tammi Fluharty was taken to Easton Memorial Hospital and was listed in stable condition today. No one else was in the house when the shooting occurred. The handgun was recovered in the house, police said.
