Defending champion Johnny's Used Cars took a 2-0 record into its game against New Orleans today in the All-America Amateur Baseball Association tournament in Johnstown, Pa.
The Baltimore sandlot power edged Youngstown of Ohio, 6-5, behind the pitching of Wayne Gomes in its opening game Monday, then clobbered Brooklyn Youth Services yesterday, 20-2.
Bill Muhlenfeld was credited with the victorty over Brooklyn, scattering four hits. Robert Schmitt drove in six runs with two triples and a double, Mark Foster went 2-for-4 with four RBIs and Tom Taylor was 3-for-5 with two RBIs.
Johnny's has won the last two AAABA championships and New Orleans won in 1988. The double-elimination tournament for 20-and-under teams runs through Saturday.
