How would you describe your taste in clothing?
I'm uncomplicated and functional with my basic clothes and colorful in my selection of accessories.
What's the newest thing in your closet?
Riding is my newest obsession, so my riding boots are my newest acquisition.
What's the oldest thing in your closet?
A black V-neck sweater my sister brought me from Bermuda 25 years ago. I've worn it through college and military days and it still looks as good as it ever did.
Do you have a true standby that you wear to feel good?
When I wear my jeans, cowboy boots and a casual shirt, I feel good.
What have you held on to for sentimental reasons?
Several things -- my sweater, a tie from my daughter, a watch from my son and several pairs of cuff links I inherited from my father.
What is your wardrobe weakness?
Shoes. I only have three pairs of business shoes and all the rest are athletic shoes. Your shoes tell the kind of life you lead and mine point to anything athletic.
What's the most expensive item in your closet?
A Ralph Lauren suit that I bought on sale at an outlet.
What's the least expensive item in your closet?
LL Bean sandals.
What's the wildest outfit you ever bought?
You have to use your imagination to see this outfit. But it's what I wore when I jumped out of a cake for a woman's 40th birthday party about eight years ago.
What are your favorite accessories?
Ties and cuff links. I'll spend a few more bucks on an expensive tie rather than on expensive suits, because the ties reflect your personality. I can see why the ties today are called talking ties because they attract attention. I've never received comments on suits, but I certainly have on ties. I also love French cuff shirts that I jazz up with unusual cuff links, which include sets of airplanes, television cameras, and Aztec Indian silver. I'm in the market for a pair that depicts the radio business.
Do you have any shopping tips you'd like to share?
Shop off season and look for sales. If you're busy, it's easy to shop catalogs for sports clothes and Christmas gifts. Look for quality, functional wear that you can jazz up with accessories. Socks can be a fun accessory.
If you could buy anything in the world that you wanted, what would that be?
Last week's winning lottery ticket.
