Recent Dulaney High graduate Brandy Wood may not have achieved the time she wanted, but she had no complaints with her third-place finish in the women's 400-meter individual medley at the Pan American Games in Havana, Cuba, last night.
"I've never been in a big international meet before," Wood, 17, who swims for the North Baltimore Aquatic Club, told The Sun. "I really wanted to get a medal."
Since early July, Wood had set her sights -- and a sign on her refrigerator door in Lutherville -- on a time of 4:44. But plagued by a virus upon arriving in Cuba Aug. 4, she finished last night in 4:52.38, picking up time during the breaststroke and the backstroke. "I'm a little disappointed with my time," she said. "I know I can go a lot faster."
