Drug proceeds go to police, task force
The Ocean City Police Department and the Worcester Count Narcotics Task Force this week received money from forfeited drug proceeds. Richard Bennett, U.S. District Attorney for the district of Maryland, presented the police department with $14,600 and the task force with $9,700.
The money was their share of funds received from the sale oOcean Pines property that belonged to Richard McCleary, who was convicted of conspiracy to distribute cocaine and conspiracy to import cocaine into the state. He is now in jail.
Game machines may be inspected
In a continuing effort to keep gambling out of the resort, the Ocean City Council will ask State's Attorney B. Randall Coates to inspect game machines -- such as those in arcades and bars -- and determine if any are illegal. The motion was made by Councilman Vince Gisriel and unanimously passed this week. Ocean City Mayor Roland "Fish" Powell said if any machines are illegal they will be removed from town.
Snow Hill exhibit set for September
Worcester County's traditional Court House Art Exhibit ha been scheduled on Sept. 21-22, at the Courthouse in Snow Hill. The event, held during Fall Festival Weekend in Snow Hill, will feature works by Eastern Shore artists and carvers. Call 632-3151.
Bavarian festival, Sunfest planned
Plans are underway for two fall festivals, Sunfest '91, Sept 19-22, on the Inlet, and the Bavarian Festival, Oct. 4-5, at the Ocean City Convention Center. Scheduled events at Sunfest include an old-fashioned bathing suit contest, a fun run and a kite festival. The Bavarian Festival will have oompah bands, beer, wurst and schnitzel.
Miniature golf course evokes cold climate
There's a new miniature golf course in town with a coo theme. Ocean City Ice Land Golf, on Philadelphia Avenue at Somerset Street, was built at the former site of the Ocean City Ice Co. and is designed to represent the Arctic and tundra.
