PICK OF THE WEEK: Danny Dolan's description of his band, First Class, is simple.

"We're a good-time party band," he said of the Baltimore-based group. "It's a party. We have a strong local following because of our personalities and because we go out and mix with the audience. We're basically like friends with them. It's personal. We see them having a blast and just hanging out," Mr. Dolan said.

He is the lead singer and plays saxophone. Other members are Rick Heyman, keyboards; Rick Colfer, drums, and Dane Williams, guitar. All the members sing a little as the band performs in Ocean City during the summer and, in the winter, in Baltimore.

Formed five years ago, First Class plays top 40 variety music, including songs such as "Temptation" and some older music made popular by artists like David Sanborn and the Four Tops. "It's very popular," Mr. Dolan said.

"We're heavy on the sax music and people seem to like that. There aren't a lot of bands that do that. And, we're fairly consistent with the sound and the energy of the band," he said.

First Class will be at the Ocean Club, on the Beach at 49th Street, tonight from 9:30 p.m. to 2 a.m. and Aug. 26 through Sept. 9.

IN CONCERT: Country singer Kenny Rogers, known for such songs as "Lady" and "Lucille," will be at the Ocean City Convention Center for two shows on Aug. 14, at 6 p.m. and 9:30 p.m. Tickets are $23.50. The show is part of Ocean City's summer series, which has also included shows by singers Ray Charles, Dionne Warwick and Burt Bacharach.

ON STAGE: The musical/comedy/murder-mystery, "Puttin' on the Glitz," is continuing Tuesday through Saturdays, until Aug. 31, at the Commander Boardwalk Cabaret Dinner Theater on the Boardwalk at 14th Street. The show, "My Fat Friend," will be performed Sept. 4-28. Dinner seating is from 7 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. Call 289-6166.
