Mayfield Woods Middle School is conducting orientation to familiarize students and parents with the new school.

Sessions are scheduledfrom 8:30 to 10:30 a.m. Thursday, Aug. 29, for incoming sixth grade students; from 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. for incoming seventh grade students; and from 1 to 2:30 p.m. for incoming eighth grade students.

Students will tour the building, meet school staff and will receive homeroom and class assignments, lockers and other information.

Transportation will not be provided.

An orientation/open house forparents will begin at 7:30 p.m. Aug. 29.

Parents will meet with school administrators, counselors and team leaders, and will be able to tour the facility.

GLENELG APPOINTS 2

Glenelg Country School Headmaster Ryland O. Chapman III has appointedJane Wood Faller as director of admissions and John David Varner as business manager.

Faller served as associate administrator of the Council for American Private Education in Washington. She was also director of admissions of the Chadwick School, Palo-Verdes Peninsula inCalifornia, and served on the Los Angeles Duke University Alumni Advisory and Admissions Council.

Faller replaces Nan Terry, who retired in June.

Varner served as executive vice president and partner at Bramman Co. in Baltimore. He was also CEO for Tennessee Aigas and a teacher at the Norfolk Academy in Virginia.

DUNLOGGIN ORIENTATION

Dunloggin Middle School is sponsoring an orientation for new students at 9 a.m. Aug. 29.

The program will last until 10:30 a.m. for seventh- and eighth-graders and until 11:30 a.m. for sixth-graders.

JOB-SEARCH CLASSES SET

Careerscope, a non-profit career counseling agency, is offering free orientation to its available services at 11 a.m. Aug. 13 (a special program for graduating college seniors), 10 a.m. Aug. 14, 6:30 p.m. Aug. 19, and 10 a.m. Aug. 27 at Harpers Choice.

A job-search tactics program designed to assist graduating college seniors will be from 9:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Aug. 12, 28 and 30.

MOUNT HEBRON OPEN

Mount Hebron High School is conducting registration for new students entering the 1991-1992 school year from 8:30 a.m. to noon and from 1 to 3 p.m. Aug 13 and 20.

REGISTER FOR COURSES

The University of Maryland University College will conduct walk-in admission and registration for fall courses at Columbia from 5 to 6:30 p.m. Aug. 21 at Howard High School.

Additional courses offered at the FortMeade Center. Registration will be from noon to 5:30 p.m. Aug. 15 inthe Learning Lab on Ernie Pyle Drive.

CARE FOR KINDERGARTNERS

The Columbia Association's before-and after-school care program will accept registration for kindergarten pupils for the fall.

Parents may register at the Member Service Center in The Mall at Columbia for remaining openings until Aug. 13.

Children in morning kindergarten may attend the before-school program at the site at 7.

Children attending the afternoon kindergarten may attend the after-school program at the site until 6.

A full-day program cannot be offered at this time for kindergartners.

TODDLERS REGISTER

All kindergartners requiring bus transportation must be registered at their home school by Aug.15.

Bus service for the first two weeks of school will not be guaranteed for children registered after that date.

Pupils must be 5 years old on or before this Dec. 31, to be eligible for entrance intokindergarten for the school year.

Children are also required to have primary immunization against diphtheria, tetanus, pertussis, poliomyelitis, measles (rubeola), and German measles (rubella).

Parents should enroll their children at the school serving the community inwhich they reside. They should bring the child's birth certificate and evidence of immunization.

HOWARD HIGH REUNION

The Howard High School Class of 1981 will celebrate its 10-year reunion from 8 p.m. tomidnight Aug. 24 at the Turf Valley Country Club.

There will be music, dancing, a cash bar, alumni directory and a buffet dinner.

The fee is $25 per person.
