Led by an AAU record-setting performance by its senior boys 4 X 400 meter relay team, the Ed Waters Track Club put on a strong showing at the AAU Junior Olympic Championships this past weekend in Tallahassee, Fla.
In the boys 17-18 age group, the relay team of Tramont Evans (Poly), Ron Keene (Mervo), Jeff Fisher (Walbrook) and Kareem Lamb (Catonsville) set an AAU age group record with a time of 3:12.9 in the 4 X 400 event. All will be seniors in high school this fall except Lamb, who will be a freshman at Morgan State.
Three other teams representing the Ed Waters club also performed well. The 11-12 girls team of Chantel Gaskins, Camille Bethal, Elizabeth Johnson and Katie Eggleston won the 4 X 400 relay in 4:16.5. The 15-16 boys team of Samora Morris (City), Benjamin Braswell (Lake Clifton), Anthony Stuckey (Mervo) and Donte Palmer (Poly) placed second in the 4 X 100 relay at the AAU championships after placing first in the prestigious TAC Junior Championships the week before in Raleigh, N.C., with a winning time of 42.23. The alternate was Eric Gay (Poly).
And the 17-18 boys placed second in the 4 X 800 relay at the AAU meet, with the team of Tramont Evans, Michael Williams (Poly), Kareem Lamb and Ron Drummond (Poly).
