Little Orioles Win Regional Championship

The Kazmarek Little Orioles won the Pee Wee Reese North Atlantic Regional for 12 and Under youth baseball in Brooklyn, N.Y., yesterday.

The Little Orioles advance to the Pee Wee Reese World Series, to take place Thursday through Sunday in Jonesboro, Ga. Puerto Rico is thedefending champion.

Starting the day as the only unbeaten team in the tournament, theLittle Orioles lost their first game to South Shore, N.J., 3-2, but came back to win the championship over South Shore, 17-7.

It took a dramatic 11-run rally in the sixth inning for the Little Orioles (69-11 overall) to pull out the victory.

Down 6-1 in the top of the sixth, the Little Orioles exploded, as Shane "Moose" Miller hit a pair of two-run home runs. Jared Vogt added a two-run homer in the same inning.

The Little Orioles also got a home run from Chris Rice.

Rice picked up the win in relief of Mike Ziegler.

Miller hit six round-trippers in the six-game tournament, while Vogt had three.
