Enrico's, 808 Westminster Pike, Reisterstown, 833-6301. Enrico's is an idea whose time has come: a family restaurant with well-prepared food, a full bar and an attractive atmosphere that puts youngsters and adults at ease for a meal that's a cut above most outings to such places. Children are not only welcome, they are fed for free -- from the children's menu -- every night before 7 o'clock. But this is not a family-only place, either; many adults were dining without children on a recent visit. The regular menu is largely Italian, but there are seafood, chicken, pizza and subs, too. $$moderate. (Last visited 6/91.)

Caribbean Cafe, 48 E. Cross St., 783-0463. This Federal Hill carryout hasn't much to recommend it ambience-wise, and the menu varies on the whim of the owner-chef. But Caribbean it is, from the Jamaican food and reggae to the chef's dreadlocks. Portions are generous, and we were enthusiastic about the jerk chicken, with its penetrating smoky taste and delayed-reaction kick, and steamed snapper in a delicately spicy golden gravy with a curry note. $inexpensive. LYNN WILLIAMS American Cafe, Light Street Pavilion, Harborplace, 962-8800. Of course, what's jazzy about the American Cafe is water, boats, and sky. Menu writers woo diners with fancy dancing on the map -- you order Chattanooga chicken pot pie, not just plain old chicken pot pie, but what you get is plain old food -- overcooked chicken, a Reuben sandwich without sauerkraut or cheese, weird lasagna, and super-commercial desserts. On the other hand, it's clean, the staff is young and cheerful, and the strawberry daiquiris are wet and cold. $$moderate. (Last visited 5/91.)
