Festivals and feasts abound this weekend for the whole family, so toss that apron aside, grab your pocketbook and go.

Start at the Union Mills Homestead's annual Old Fashioned Corn Roast Festival, featuring a chicken dinner and all the roasted corn you can eat, noon to 6 p.m. Saturday.

Watch as the corn is roasted on iron stoves in the husks like they used to do in the good ol' days. Tours also are available for the home and grist mill and homemade breads, stoneground cornmeal, buckwheat and wholewheat from the mill are available for purchase.

Tickets for the dinner are $8 for adults and $4 for children 12 years and younger. The homestead is at 2330 Littlestown Pike, Westminster.

Trinity Lutheran Church is having its 115th annual Dutch Picnic with a fried chicken and ham supper, a jousting tournament and entertainment from 1 to 9 p.m. Saturday at 833 DeerPark Road, Westminster.

Entertainment will be provided by "Free Wheelin'," the Knights of Music, the Old Line Statesmen Barbershop Quartet and the Carroll County Cloggers.

Dinner is $7 for adults and

$3.50 for children, plus ice cream and sodas will be available.

If you can't wait till Saturday to get started, check out this week's 4-H/FFA Fair through Saturday at theAg Center, Smith Avenue.

Satisfy your sweet tooth at the Cake Auction at 7 p.m. today. Tomorrow features senior citizen exhibits all day; WPOC radio's "Laurie on the Road" 5-6:30 p.m.; and the band Free Wheeling at 8 p.m.

Friday's events include an English horse and pony show, tractor driving contest and the annual livestock sale. Musicwill be by Dillon Picket in the evening.

Union Bridge Fire Company is having a dance, featuring music by the Hubcaps, 9 p.m. to 1 a.m. Friday at the Firehall on Locust Street.

If you needjust to sit down and relax, Theatre on the Hill presents "The Wizardof Oz" at 8 p.m. Friday and Saturday, and again Aug. 9 and 10 at Western Maryland College, Alumni Hall, Westminster.

Like to shop? Stop in at the CarrollCounty Farmer's Market 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday at the Ag Center, Smith Avenue, Westminster.

Home-grown and home-made fruits, vegetables and baked goods, along with flowers and arts and crafts items will be available.

The Deer Creek Fiddlers Convention II comes to town 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. Sunday at the Carroll County Farm Museum, 500 S. Center Street, Westminster.

Admission is $7 per person, free for children under 18 accompanied by an adult.
