Baseball NL -- Suspended Chicago Cubs OF Andre Dawson for one game and fined him $1,000 for bumping umpire Joe West in a game against Cincinnati last Tuesday.

New York Yankees -- Placed OF Jesse Barfield (.225 avg., 17 HR and 48 RBIs in 84 games) on the 15-day disabled list with a stress-type fracture in the front of his left foot. Recalled OF Mike Humphreys from Class AAA Columbus.


Maryland -- Announced that Archie Clark, a sophomore DE, has been academically dismissed.


Cincinnati Bengals -- Waived QB Chris Swartz; TE Ken McKay; Branko Vincic; WR Travis Vallin and WR Howard Dell, and DE Arthur Walker.

Kansas City Chiefs -- Signed OT Matt McCartin.

New Orleans Saints -- Waived WR Chris Roscoe. Placed WR Jason Johnson on injured reserve.

Seattle Seahawks -- Waived WR Nick Mazzoli and DT Mark Moore.

Hamilton Tiger-Cats (CFL) -- Signed QB Stan Gelbaugh and RB Jamie Morris to the practice roster.


Boston Bruins -- Re-signed G Reggie Lemelin to a one-year contract.

Philadelphia Flyers -- Traded the rights to F Mike Bullard to the Toronto Maple Leafs, who signed him, for the option to take Toronto's fourth-round pick in the 1992 entry draft or a third-round pick in 1993.


U.S. Soccer Federation -- Named Bill Nuttall general manager of national teams.

NPSL -- Awarded a franchise in Harrisburg, Pa. to a group headed by Dr. Rex Herbert.
