July 29, 1991

Three men wearing stockings over their heads robbed the Sir Walter Raleigh Inn restaurant in Ellicott City at gunpoint Saturday night, escaping with an undisclosed amount of cash, according to Howard County police.

No one was hurt, they said. Two of the men were armed with sawed-off shotguns.

They accosted an employee who was leaving at about 11:40 p.m. and forced their way into the restaurant, which is located at 8569 Baltimore National Pike.

About 10 employees were inside, police said.

The employees were herded into the walk-in freezer and shut in, they said.

By the time police arrived a few minutes later to release them, the robbers were gone.
