Hardly anybody calls this friendly, appetite-satisfying place by its real name. Go there once and it becomes "the OPI," one of those tavern/restaurant establishments that have earned the honored title of neighborhood eatery.
Previously located across Philadelphia Road in a quaint old corner house, the restaurant moved a couple of years ago into this corner of a shopping center. There's a lounge with bar, tables and booths and also a dining area with ceiling fans and western pictures, including a portrait of John Wayne.
The whole menu is available for carryout, and OPI regulars often indulge in the fresh shrimp salad sandwich ($6.75).
On the peppery side, the ample order has to be one of the best around, with bite-sized pieces of shrimp -- meaning no tail and thus no awkward deciding how to eat a whole shrimp politely.
The burgers are also impressive, available from a plain 6-ounce number ($2.95) to the huge, double-patty 12-ounce cheeseburger ($4.75).
And if you're not strictly watching your diet, OPI's potato skins ($2.75 with one or $3.75 with three toppings), onion rings ($2.25), curly Q fries (1.65) and Texas fries ($1.50) admirably uphold the standard of pig-out munchies.
