Caba Waits For The Fields To Dry Up

July 26, 1991

Yesterday's Continental Amateur Baseball Association 18-and-under World Series games were postponed due to wet playing fields. They were rescheduled for today at the same times.

The games scheduled at Arundel High have been moved to North County High. All other locations remain the same.

Despite undesirable weather conditions, coordinator Lew Holmes says he is pleased with the 16-team tournament. He especially favors CABA's round-robin play, rather than the traditional double-eliminationformat.

"I've run a few double-elimination tournaments. If you goclear across the country to play two games and you're out, that's lousy. But with this format, you're guaranteed nine games," he said.

"And the play has been fantastic. The heat has been terrible, but itbrought out some really hot baseball."

The series will switch to an eight-team double-elimination format for the championship and consolation playoffs, which are scheduled to begin Monday.
