This holding company for health-care organizations enrolled 80,000 more people in its programs but saw its earnings for the second quarter drop about 30 percent from the same period last year.

Michael Savage, spokesman for the Rockville-based owner of M.D. IPA Preferred and other health-care organizations, said that the company's expenses are generally highest in the second quarter. Revenues for the quarter were nearly double the same period a year ago.
